Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures

The Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures is one of the most comprehensive biological resource center worldwide. With the availability of 80 percent of all formally described bacterial species, the DSMZ hosts the majority of bacterial diversity as well as a globally unique stock of human and animal cell lines, fungal strains, plant viruses, bacteriophages and genomic bacterial DNA for research purposes. The DSMZ is both an active collection and a research institute.

DSMZ experts participating in the MICROBE project:

  • Jörg Overmann is Director of the Leibniz Institute DSMZ in Braunschweig and full professor of microbiology at the Braunschweig University of Technology.
  • Amber H. Scholz is the head of the Science Policy & Internationalization department at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ.
