EMBL-EBI

EMBL-EBI is EMBL's European Bioinformatics Institute, one of the six sites of EMBL. EMBL is an intergovernmental organisation, headquartered in Heidelberg. It was founded in 1974 with the mission of promoting molecular biology research in Europe, training scientists, and developing new technologies. EMBL is supported by 27 member states, and connects thousands of scientists and engineers that work together to conduct world leading research and scientific services, with EMBL-EBI being a powerhouse of biological databased and analysis expertise.

EMBL-EBI experts participating in the MICROBE project:

  • Rob Finn is leader of the EMBL-EBI's Microbiome Informatics team, which is responsible for the MGnify resource, which provides access to the metagenomics, metatranscriptomics and assembly analysis services.
  • Tony Burdett is the leader of the EMBL-EBI's Archive Infrastructure and Technology team. His team delivers the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) and EMBL-EBI's BioSamples database, and have expertise in large scale FAIR data management. Tony will lead he data infrastructure within the MICROBE consortium.
